Breastfeeding is one of those great things in life that only women can do. Well, I should rephrase that. Men, technically CAN lactate, though I find most are quite resistant to trying. At any rate, it’s an awfully special experience that women don’t usually have enough support for.
Wise Women Fertility can provide support in all ways for this amazing experience. I enjoy helping mothers improve (or decrease) their milk supply using diet and herbs as well as practical support for the emotional and technical issues involved in nursing their babies.
Having nursed all 3 of my children, myself, I encountered problems that eluded lactation consultants and frustrated me and my baby. I’m pleased when I can share what I’ve learned with others. But not all problems require a private appointment with me. I’ve a few excellent books to recommend, with which to begin your journey.
The Ultimate Breastfeeding Book of Answers: The Most Comprehensive Problem-Solving Guide to Breastfeeding from the Foremost Expert in North America, Revised & Updated Edition was the only book I found which referenced Raynaud’s Phenomenon, which should speak volumes about this book. It was written by Dr. Jack Newman, a man who, if memory serves, is Tel Aviv born and Canadian raised. It is my number one recommendation for the experienced and savvy breastfeeding mother/grandmother and the respective men in their lives.
The Breastfeeding Book: Everything You Need to Know About Nursing Your Child from Birth Through Weaning would be my general number one pick for the woman who is a first time nursing mother and her partner. Written by Dr. Sears and his wife, who is an RN and herself nursed her large brood, as well as an adopted and a downs syndrome child (yes, you can!) it is an indispensible guide to some of the more basic aspects of breastfeeding, written in a kind, gentle and supportive way. A book that feels good to crack open during those late night nursings when you just need a bit of extra love and support (and your partner is snoring!)
These books are some other wonderful supporting books for nursing. Particular attention should be paid to Mothering Your Nursing Toddler because it specifically deals with tandem nursing and issues unique to nursing a baby over a year old.
And of course you are welcome to schedule an appointment with me directly for more specialized one-on-one care.
Thanks for taking the time to share this, I feel strongly about it and love reading more on this topic. If possible, as you gain knowledge, would you mind updating your blog with more information? It is extremely helpful for me.
